At an Event held in Delhi, Asus India launched a new smartphone in Indian market starting at the price of Rs 29,000 for 6 GB+ 64 GB variant and key highlights of the smartphone are Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Processor, Professional Low light Cameras, A.I Integration in Performance, Camera, and Charging. The new Asus Zenfone 5Z will be exclusively available from 9 July on Flipkart.
Design And Build Quality
The smartphone is using 2.5D curved glass at both rear and front that gives a premium look and feel to the handset. The screen to body ratio is 90%, all thanks to Notch.
Zenfone 5Z is 7.7mm sleek and feels really comfortable to hold despite a large 6.2 inches FullHD+ 19:9 display but it is a tad slippery phone and will slide down to the ground in no time from your hands to the ground.
The display of the Asus Zenfone 5Z supports whopping 550 nits of brightness that makes it easily available under sunlight. It also features DCI-P3 Color space technology that displays real-life colors on the display. It will be available in two exciting colors: Meteor Silver And Midnight Blue.
The device is powered by latest and powerful Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 Processor coupled with an Adreno 630 GPU. This processor is 30% more power efficiency and 30% more powerful than previous Snapdragon 835 processor.
The 845 Processor comes integrated with Artificial Intelligence capabilities. The combination of SD 845, LPDDR4X Memory and UFS2.1 defines a Real Flagship. Games Like PUBG will be running very smoothly due to excellent hardware present on the Zenfone 5Z.
Coming to Optics, there is a very good 12 MP sensor using Sony IMX363 that comes with OIS and an aperture of f/1.8.It can record 4k at 60 FPS. The secondary sensor of 8MP provides a wide angle sensor of 120 degrees field of view. The camera sports a larger 1.4μm pixel size that captures 96% more light than the 1.0μm pixel size, in return more brighter images in low light.
The camera is integrated with AI scene detection capabilities that it can set the environment according to the situation like snow, grass etc.
For selfies, there is a good 8MP shooter with an aperture of f/2.0 and also comes with EIS. It can record videos up to 1080p.
The camera quality is very good in my initial testing, the colors are punchy and the exposure level was excellent. So, below are some samples taken by cameras of Asus Zenfone 5Z.
Normal shot: Asus Zenfone 5Z/ Rear Cam
Portrait Mode: Asus Zenfone 5Z/Rear Camera
Portait Mode: Asus Zenfone 5Z/Front Camera
As you can see the images turned out really well, there is a well-balanced profile in terms of colors and saturation but it is so early to come up with a conclusion without reviewing the device in detail.
Battery And Audio
The device is backed up by a 3300 mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 3.0 and an 18W charger is included in the box.A.I is integrated deeply into the battery and it promises to ensure 2X battery life.
To enhance the Audio experience, Asus has included Dual speakers coupled with DualSmart AMP to increase the loudness and overall quality of the sound.
While playing games or Watching youtube videos, there is a special button to scale the apps with ease, also you can hide the notch completely by going under the display settings of the device.
It has all the connectivity features like Dual 4G Volte, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, 3 microphone- noise cancellation.
The device also features like an adaptive ringtone that works according to the noise levels in the environment, if there is quite an environment then the ringtone will be played in lower volume else the ringtone volume will be much higher.
There is also an option of Face unlock that is very common nowadays and a fingerprint sensor that can unlock your phone in 0.3 seconds, said Asus.
The Zenfone 5Z runs on ZUi 5 skin on top of Android 8.0 Oreo that comes with Original 14 Zui apps.
Asus Zenfone 5Z uses OptiFlex technology to launch apps almost 1.86x than the competitor OnePlus 6 despite having the same hardware. It is possible by carefully observing user’s pattern Via A.I technology.
Availability And Pricing
Asus Zenfone 5Z is priced at Rs 29,999 for 6GB+64GB, 32,999 Rs for 6GB+128 GB and finally an 8GB variant with 256 GB of storage for Rs 36,999.

You are also getting a bundled high-quality earphones, a clear bumper case, a Quick 3.0 Charger and a Type-C cable.
Asus has really redefined the flagship because, at this price point, no other brand is providing such outstanding specifications like a powerful Snapdragon 845 Processor. The whole launch was pointing towards the comparison with OnePlus 6.
I haven’t used Zenfone 5Z fully so cannot predicate so early which is better among the two but below are some points that will help you to choose a better device.
- Price to performance: Surely Zenfone 5Z takes the lead here.
- Front Camera is better on OnePlus 6.
- You are getting bundled earphones and a bumper case with Asus Zenfone 5Z.
- OnePlus 6 for close to the stock Android experience.
- Asus might provide better after-sales service than OnePlus, again I cannot guarantee but I think so.
- Artificial intelligence capabilities on Zenfone 5Z is just outstanding, they have coupled A.I in almost all spaces like the battery, camera, and performance.
